Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation, traditional Chinese medicine / acupuncture, and lifestyle counseling.

Naturopathic doctors can also complement and enhance health care services provided by other health care professionals. They cooperate with other branches of medical science referring patients to other practitioners for diagnosis or treatment when appropriate. Naturopathic Doctors provide patients with a truly integrative form of health care.

Diagnostic Lab Testing
Lab testing is an essential part of many naturopathic treatment protocols. Analysis of blood, saliva, hair and stool samples can be the key to the diagnosis of a condition. Below is a list of some of the lab tests that I can facilitate.

Osteopathy is holistic in nature in that it views the body as a total interconnected unit. Osteopathic manual therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment that focuses on removing restrictions and the restoration of movement and function to the entire body in order to restore the body’s natural balance, optimal function, and healing ability.
Osteopathic manual practitioners have a deep understanding of the anatomical and physiological interrelationships of the body, with a goal of restoring proper movement and function to the whole body.

Osteopathic Manual therapy requires a highly refined sense of touch to identify and treat areas of dysfunction that have alterations in tissue texture and tone that may disrupt the overall physiological function and health of the person. Typically, priority in treatment is given to areas of greatest rigidity. The goal of treatment is to facilitate corrections and a full expression of health by working in conjunction with the natural self-regulation and self-healing mechanism of the body. Osteopathy considers the whole person with treatment individualized to determine the underlying cause of the health concern; not just focusing on symptoms.

Common benefits of treatment may include:
Reduced stiffness and muscle tension
Reduced pain
Improved mobility and function,
improved compliance to allow deep breathing
Improved circulation
Reduced anxiety/stress
improved mood
improved energy
improved sleep
improved digestion
improved body awareness and self-care

What techniques are used in osteopathy treatment?

Each individual is unique so no treatment or techniques is the same as it depends what is appropriate and available for you that day based on assessment findings. There is a methodology in treatment where priority is given to areas of greatest rigidity. Most osteopathic techniques involve a light touch and are gentle in nature.

Examples of techniques include:
Cranial sacral techniques/therapy
Soft tissue/myofascial release techniques
Joint and spinal mobilization
Muscle energy
Balancing techniques
Indirect/direct techniques
Fluid techniques (eg. lymphatic pumping).

Therapeutic movement such as core conditioning, stretches, stability exercises and postural re-training may also be included in treatment as Lindsay has expertise in therapeutic exercise and movement as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Registered Kinesiologist.

Examples of conditions (not limited to) that osteopathy assists in treating:

Sports injuries
Pain
Muscle tension/stiffness
Anxiety/stress
Asthma
Sinusitis
Back pain
Neck pain
Sciatica/SI joint pain
Urinary Incontinence
Headaches
Migraines
Insomnia/sleep difficulties
TMJ/jaw pain
Digestive problems-Irritable bowel/constipation/bloating
Post Concussion Syndrome

What should I wear to my osteopathy appointments?
Loose, lightweight clothing is recommended during treatments

Do I need a doctor’s referral before booking an appointment?
No you do not need to get a referral from a doctor to book an appointment. An exception is if your insurance plan requires it.

Insurance coverage

Osteopathic treatment fees are eligible for coverage under most extended health benefit plans.

My professional designation as an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner is D.O.M.P. (Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice) and D.Sc.O (Diploma in Science of Osteopathy) from the Canadian College of Osteopathy and I am a member in good standing in the OAO (Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners).

Hi, I’m Lindsay!

I am an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, Certified Athletic Therapist, Registered Kinesiologist, and a certified Pilates Instructor (Mat & Reformer) with over 20 years of experience in the health and wellness industry.

Wherever you are on your wellness journey, I believe in your body’s ability to heal. It’s my passion to assist and facilitate this process of self-healing through osteopathic manual therapy, therapeutic movement & exercise, so the balance of health can be restored and maintained for a lifetime.

I have a deep appreciation and understanding of the unity and interconnectivity of the body, with a particular interest in the mind-body connection, and the effects of stress on the body. With that in mind, I take a holistic approach towards your treatment to discover the underlying cause of the symptom or condition.

Each of us has had a unique journey to bring us to the point we’re at today. We’ve had to adapt to physical and emotional stress that disrupt the physiology of the body. Overtime, an area becomes overloaded, has less mobility, and gradually, we begin to lose our ability to adapt. You might see this expressed as an injury, disruptions in digestion, anxiety, headaches, or simply pain.

Throughout my years of experience, I’ve come to recognize that an individualized approach to treatment is most effective. So, just as your history is unique, your course of treatment will be unique. After all, the journey to lasting health begins with you.

My personal journey began a few years ago. Entering adulthood, I found myself questioning what truly made me happy. As I was entering my initial career path, I found that my career lacked passion, depth, and meaning. That is when I took a look within myself and realized that is when I had some work to do. As I started to work on myself, I realized that there was no other thing in the world that made me happier. By working on myself, I have learned about the power of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy has taught me to talk about my thoughts and feelings, the importance of making connections, personal healing. and growing in personal awareness.
